Monthly wrap-ups

June 2020 wrap-up

My wrap up for June

I didn’t get through as many books as usual this month, I kind  of got involved in a couple of Netflix shows instead 😄 However, I can’t believe how many amazing books were in the 12 I did read.  I found some truly incredible books!

My 4.5 / 5 stars for this month were:

Of Silver & Shadow:  A brilliant fantasy with a bad ass main character and a unique magic system of ‘silver wielders’, who can manipulate silver to do their bidding.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: I know this one has divided a lot of people.  It’s a love or hate situation I think.   I personally loved reading President Snow’s origin story, taking place before the Hunger Games we know and love!

The Shark Caller:  A beautiful story about a girl who desperately wants to be a ‘shark caller’ on the island she lives on, and an American girl who reluctantly befriends her.

Hold Back the Tide:  I loved this one so much.  The synopsis doesn’t make it obvious, but this is a monster story, of the vampire kind.  It was just the type of vampire book I’ve been looking for!

The Weight of the Stars:  I’ve been meaning to read this book for SO long and I finally did it!  I loved this author’s book The Wicker King and I loved this one just as much.  If you haven’t read any K. Ancrum books yet, I highly recommend them!

On the Come Up:  I listened to On the Come Up on audio, while I was waiting for my beautiful silver special edition to arrive!  It was just everything.  I knew it would be great after reading The Hate U Give last year, but it really blew me away.  If you get a chance to listen to it on audio, I’d highly recommend it.

Little Universes:  This one was haunting, heartwrenching and so much better than I expected.  It’s about two sisters who lose their parents in a tsunami and subsequently, their very different lives and ways of dealing with grief.  A raw look at addiction from both sides of the coin, it’s one that will stay with me.

Girl, Serpent, Thorn:  A Persian inspired fantasy, about a girl who is poisonous to the touch and her path to finding out how and why she was cursed.  This one was beautifully written and had some brilliant twists and turns.

Other ones I really enjoyed were Hawk and My Mother’s Choice!

As usual, clicking on the pics below will take you to my reviews (Some reviews may not be live on my blog yet as I post them on the book’s release date due to publisher’s requests, so keep your eye on my blog for those reviews in July)  🙂
