Hazel Spratt was an agreeable child. Never impatient, unruly or wild. But when Hazel turns three-and-a-half, her parents notice a change. She is no longer their polite and pleasant daughter, Hazel, she is now Grumbelina, ‘a grumpy child, so disgruntled yet small, with a list of complaints that could cover a wall.’ Settle down and relax for a moment, this humorous and delightfully illustrated picture book takes a tongue-in-cheek look at tantrums – perfect for every home.
Review
Thank you so much to Hachette Children’s Books for providing me with a copy of Grumbelina in exchange for an honest review!
Grumbelina, AKA Hazel, is 3 and a half years old and her sunny demeanour has suddenly become more of a hurricane. Nothing is going right, unreasonable demands are flying and her parents can do nothing but try not to get sucked in to the storm.
Do you have a 3 and a half year old? BECAUSE I HAVE A THREE AND A HALF YEAR OLD and clearly these authors have been looking in my windows 😂 Those delightful, whirlwind storms that defy all logic, then the return of the perfectly calm and reasonable child right after, will give you whiplash. Esther and Aleksandra managed to capture those crazy, realistic moments in a hilarious rhyming book that will have children giggling (silly Hazel, she got so mad, I wouldn’t do that mummy. Ahem) and parents either laughing out loud or grimacing in shared pain, depending on where your child is in the Grumbelina stage 😄 With beautiful and fun illustrations, this is definitely one I’d recommend for all parents to read to their kids at this, erm, delightful age 😏😉
