The Witches: Graphic Novel by Roald Dahl and Penelope Bagieu – Review

My Rating ~ Four Stars

RELEASE DATE:  3 September 2020

Format: Paperback

Publisher: Scholastic

Pages:  304

Most people don’t know that witches wear ordinary clothes and have ordinary jobs. They live in ordinary towns all across the world—and there’s nothing they despise more than children. When an eight-year-old boy and his grandmother come face-to-face with the Grand High Witch herself, they may be the only people who can stop the witches’ latest plot to stamp out every last child in the country.

This full-color graphic-novel edition of Roald Dahl’s The Witches is the first-ever Dahl story to appear in this format.

Thank you to Scholastic for providing me with a copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review!

Witches used to be around, and they could smell a kid from a mile away.  You wouldn’t want to cross a witch, but there’s not many around anymore….except when a boy and his grandmother go on holiday.  After discovering a hoard of them by accident, he has a plan to stop their evil plot, but that’s going to be hard to do in his current…..state.

I love that this beloved Roald Dahl story has been turned into a graphic novel!  Even if my 4 year old did make me sit down and read all 304 pages to her in one sitting 😄  I don’t have a lot of experience reading graphic novels but this one was easy to follow and both brought back memories of reading the original story when I was younger, and gave me new visuals to go with it.  The illustrations are fantastic and although they are somewhat different, they still seem to hold true to the style we’ve come to know and love on the covers of Dahl’s other books.
