She was the face that launched a thousand ships,
The fierce beauty at the heart of Olympus,
And she was never ours to claim.

*A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Helen of Troy, Achilles, and Patroclus that’s as sinful as it is sweet.*

In Olympus, you either have the power to rule…or you are ruled. Achilles Kallis may have been born with nothing, but as a child he vowed he would claw his way into the poisonous city’s inner circle. Now that a coveted role has opened to anyone with the strength to claim it, he and his partner, Patroclus Fotos, plan to compete and double their odds of winning.

Neither expect infamous beauty Helen Kasios to be part of the prize…or for the complicated fire that burns the moment she looks their way.

Zeus may have decided Helen is his to give to away, but she has her own plans. She enters into the competition as a middle finger to the meddling Thirteen rulers, effectively vying for her own hand in marriage. Unfortunately, there are those who would rather see her dead than lead the city. The only people she can trust are the ones she can’t keep her hands off—Achilles and Patroclus. But can she really believe they have her best interests at heart when every stolen kiss is a battlefield?

Review

Thank you so much to Newsouth Books for providing me with a copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review!

Helen of Troy is determined to compete for the title of Ares. Even though her brother Zeus has just thrown a major spanner in the works, by naming Helen as the prize – whoever takes the title of Ares will also take Helen as their wife. After being told she will never amount to anything too many times, she’s going to prove them all wrong. She will win the title herself.

Achilles and his partner, Patroclus, are also entering the trials to win. Although Patroclus is there to make sure Achilles takes the title. With his brains and Achilles strength, it’s a sure thing.

None of them expect the attraction between them to burn so hot. How can they give in to the fire burning for each other when they are enemies competing for the same title? There can only be one winner.

I have loved all of the Dark Olympus books so far! They are tons of fun, a wild ride and I absolutely adore the characters.  This one had a trope I love – a one winner tournament ! The arena style competition had me on the edge of my seat. This one was far more than just a story woven around smut. Although, let’s not be shy, the smut was a ton of fun too 😏😄

It should be noted, I have absolutely zero care factor about the original Gods of Olympus and any lore associated with it, so what is ‘original’, ‘retelling’ or completely out of left field neither affects me or is even noticed by me. I know some people are a fan of the original lore and don’t enjoy retellings that deviate too far from the stories, so I’d just like to point out, these books are read by me with little to no background information. If you are like me and don’t know much about the original tales, don’t let that stop you giving this series a go, it can be fully enjoyed without all the background knowledge!
