Me prior to reading ACOFAS: I know I won’t be able to rate it 5 stars because no matter how much I enjoy it, I can never rate a novella 5 Stars.

Me 5 seconds after finishing the book: FIVE STARS.

A Court of Frost and Starlight is almost an ‘after the war’ debriefing. Told from multiple points of view, we get a glimpse into how our favourite (and not so favourite) characters are faring in their post war lives. The book centres around the Winter Solstice, a time for celebration and gift giving, so there were a lot of lovely, light hearted moments compared to the devastation of the other books.

I really loved that some of the chapters were from Cassian’s point of view. I liked him in the previous books, but really loved him by the end of this one. The banter between both Rhysand, Azriel and Cassian and Rhysand and Feyre had a goofy smile plastered on my face for most of the book. And this:

“An Illyrian custom, actually – the heated sheds. The birchin. A bunch of naked warriors, sitting together in the steam, sweating”
I blinked again.
Mor’s lips twitched. “About the only good custom the Illyrians ever came up with, to be honest”.
I snorted. “So the three of them are just in there. Naked. Sweating.”
Mother above.”

MOTHER ABOVE INDEED. Get me to the nearest heating sheds, stat.

Sarah J Maas does a great job of making me despise characters, while also feeling guilty for doing so, and that is still the case for me regarding both Tamlin and Nesta! It appears the next book will be focusing more on Nesta’s side of the story and I’m really looking forward to reading about that.

I barely ever cry in books, I can count on one hand the times I have, but of those times, it’s those damn extra sweet parts that get me. Kill off everyone I ever loved and I’ll be dry eyed. Have something super sweet happen and ugh. Even the acknowledgements made me cry so WELL DONE Sarah.

Was this book really required as a bridge between ACOWAR and the next book? Maybe not, although it might turn out knowing exactly how Nesta was faring is crucial information. Was there an amazing plot where lots of things happened? Not really. Did I care? Nope. I just loved being back in the Inner Circle.
